Michael Poku-Marboah

Experience & Activities

Michael currently works with Touton S.A. as the Project Manager for Climate Smart Cocoa Landscapes dealing with REDD+ (Reducing Emissions from Deforestation and forest Degradation) issues. He is also a doctoral student at the University of Helsinki in Finland. He has a Master of Science degree in Environmental Biology and Biodiversity from the University of Turku in Finland where he researched into “Traditional Ecological knowledge and Biodiversity Conservation” and another Master of Science degree in Forest Products Marketing from the University of Helsinki, Finland where he researched into “Forest Certification in the United Nations Economic Commission for Europe (UNECE) Region”.

As a Natural Resource Management specialist, he has over 20 years’ cumulative work experience. He started his professional career with the Ghana Forestry Commission as a Forest Management Plans Specialist in a World Bank/DfID Project and then as District Forest Manager/Ghanaian Project counterpart in a Ghana Government/GIZ/KfW Project. He has also worked as a consultant for the United Nations Economic Commission for Europe (UNECE) Timber Committee, heading a team of University Professors and industry experts to produce Forest Certification Update for the UNECE Region. He has taught environmental/climate change-related courses in 2 Universities in Finland and set up a private company in Finland which provided services in the sanitation/environmental/forestry areas. He has had several trainings in Project Management, Business Management and Marketing. He speaks English and Twi fluently and has working knowledge of French. He has attended trainings, seminars, workshops and meetings in the USA, UK, Germany, Sweden, Holland, Russia, South Africa, Kenya, Ivory Coast, Nigeria, Togo, Thailand and Lao PDR. He is innovative, problem solver, self-motivated and analytical with exceptional abilities in planning, organizing and leading teams.
